Frequently Asked Questions

Is it cheaper to buy a condo or a house in Cleveland?

A condo usually costs less up front and often less per month, even after the condo fee. In Westlake, for example, the median condo sold for about $218,000 and the median house for about $525,000. Run your numbers in the calculator above.

What does a condo fee cover?

It typically covers exterior maintenance, the roof, landscaping, snow removal, common areas, the master insurance policy and reserves, and sometimes water, heat or amenities. Check the association’s budget and declaration.

Is condo insurance cheaper than homeowners insurance?

Usually. A condo owner’s HO-6 policy covers the interior, belongings and liability, while the association insures the building, so premiums are typically lower than an HO-3 homeowners policy.

Do condos build equity like houses?

Yes. Both build equity through loan paydown and appreciation. Condo values depend more on the building’s health, management and rules; houses carry more land value.

Who should choose a condo over a house?

Buyers who want low maintenance, lock-and-leave convenience, amenities or a walkable location often prefer a condo. Buyers who want a large yard, more space or freedom to renovate and rent often prefer a house.
